HK champ, Kiwi lead Subic triathlon entries

TWO-TIME CHAMPION Daniel Lee Chi Wo leads a strong Hong Kong team in the 2006 12th Legenda-Subic Bay International Triathlon set on May 7 at the Boardwalk area of Subic Bay Freeport.

Lee Chi Wo, who won back to back titles in 2000 and 2001 and has been campaigning in the strong European triathlon circuit, will be joined by U-23 triathletes Joe Dick Tam, Chu Shing Hsie, Lau Chin Yin, Leung Chin Yin, and recently-crowned women’s division Asian Aquathlon champion Tania Mak So Ning.

With his familiarity with both the race course and local weather conditions, Lee Chi Wo has been installed as one of the early favorites in this year’s Legenda-Subic Bay International Triathlon hosted anew by the SBMA and co-sponsored by Speedo, PowerBar, David’s Salon & Spa, Asian Centre for Insulation Phils., PSC, Metro Alliance Group, Grand Seasons Hotel, and with Legenda Hotel as title sponsor.

Two first-timers but both elite triathletes from New Zealand, Liam Scopes and Dylan Mc Neice, have also confirmed their participation in this ITU and Asia Cup Series event and should be among the top seeds according to TRAP president Tom Carrasco Jr., who is still awaiting confirmation from other Pan Pacific countries like Japan, China, Macau, Korea, Singapore, Thailand, Kazakhstan, Uzbekista, Malaysia, India, and Australia, "in the past we have had American and European competitors as this is an ITU point-earning race, one of the 14 events in Asia.

TRAP is also introducing the National Inter-club Championship in this event for the first time with only legitimate triathlon clubs to be allowed to participate, clubs will be allowed to field more than two teams but only their top two teams to be recognized at the podium.

Registration is presently going on with entry forms available at all Speedo concept stores in ATC, SM Megamall, Glorietta, Iloilo, and Cebu, and at the POC office at the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex, inquiries can be made at 812-5249 or 0916-2653109.
