MOST Korean and Japanese vehicles are allegedly spirited out of the Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA) customs zone, the Port of Manila (PoM) and the Manila International Container Port (MICP) by a relative of a former mayor of Laguna, who was also known then as the biggest importer of chop-chop vehicles.
The late mayor’s relative has reportedly inherited the throne and is now considered as the king smuggler of chop-chop and second-hand Korean and Japanese vehicles.
This was revealed by sources at the Bureau of Customs and Land Transportation Office.
The same BOC and LTO sources added that other luxury vehicles are being smuggled out of customs zones by a paper product importer who allegedly brings in late model Mercedez Benzes.
The smuggled cars are reportedly mixed with the trader’s paper products imports.
The same sources said the paper product importer used to dispose his smuggled units discreetly to close friends who are mostly politicians, showbiz personalities and businessmen.
Smuggled luxury vehicles which are doubtfully registered with the Land Transportation Office (LTO) with the use of dubious documents from the Bureau of Customs (BOC) are also disposed of at second outlets of imported vehicles being run by Filipinos and Chinese businessmen as well as Korean and Japanese traders with Filipino dummies, the BOC and LTO sources said.
Most of the smuggled cars can be located at second-hand outlets of luxury vehicles in Greenhills San Juan, Timog Avenue in Quezon City and Makati Ave.
Used cars from Korea and Japan are reportedly openly sold by Korean and Japanese nationals with Filipino dummies in their outlets along Mindanao Avenue, Quezon City, Sukat Road in Parañaque, Las Piñas City, nearby Cavite, and the cities of Manila, Marikina, Caloocan, Pasig, and Valenzuela, the same sources said.
The smuggling activities of the syndicate are reportedly ongoing with the connivance of unscrupulous BOC and LTO people. People's Tonight
