EARLY REGISTRATION DAY IN ALL PUBLIC SCHOOLS

To achieve the Millennium Development Goal (MDG) in education and a universal participation in basic education, the DepEd (Department of Education) declares January 29, 2011 as registration day for the Kindergarten, Elementary, and Secondary levels in all public schools within its jurisdiction.

Outstanding teacher awardee Eva Imingan said this is a boost to the initiatives of City Mayor James “Bong” Gordon, Jr. on education as part of his HELPS program.

The goals of this early registration are as follows: Kindergarten and Elementary: to reach out to all 5- and 6-year-old children and elementary school children and ensure their enrollment in SY 2011-2012. Secondary: to guarantee the enrollment of prospective graduates of Grade Six in SY 2011-2012; to enable the Department in collaboration with the local government units (LGUs) to make the necessary preparation and address potential resource needs in time for the opening of classes in June; and to support schools in their efforts of providing education interventions to prevent children/youth from dropping out from school.

A tremendous support movement shall be carried out at all levels in the Department starting January 10.

On January 10-28, 2011, Child or Youth Find Activities shall be introduced at the division and school levels in partnership with the Barangays.

Children who are born on October 31, 2006 or earlier shall be accepted for early enrollment in Kindergarten. Those who are born on October 31, 2005 or earlier, with or without Kindergarten experience, shall be qualified for early enrollment. The required document to be passed is the birth certificate of the child which can be submitted either in June or within the school year. This shall be the documentary basis.

All Early Registration Forms for Kindergarten, Grade One and First Year high school shall be submitted to the Division Office on or before February 4, 2011 to the Schools Division/City Superintendent, the Department of Education announced.

Students who are not presently registered in Grade Six but have finished this grade level and who want to be listed in First Year High School shall present their Grade Six Card to the Teacher-in-Charge of the registration. If the report card is not procurable, a signed Certification Report by the parent/guardian could be shown.

One of the HELPS program of the city Mayor James “Bong” Gordon Jr. is Education. As the theme goes, “Makapag-aral ay Karapatan Mo, Magpalista Ngayong Enero.”

All prospective students, elementary and high school students are encouraged to come for an early registration on January 29, 2011 at their respective schools.

Additional information about the early registration, may be coursed through the Help Desk at telephone numbers: 02-631-5057 or 02-638-3703 or e-mail at earlyreg2011@gmail.com.

Palace still undecided on SBMA board

Positions at the Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA) are still up for grabs as President Aquino is still undecided on who will be part of the SBMA Board.

The SBMA Board lost 12 of its members after President Aquino signed Executive Order (EO) no. 2, which scraps midnight appointees of former Pres. Gloria Macapagal Arroyo.

“There are already appointed part of the board but I’ll have to get the details. I have so many appointments build up in the past six months,” Aquino said, in an interview with reporters at the Subic Bay Freeport Zone in Zambales Thursday.

The Chief Executive however said he still has not completed the lineup of those that will form SBMA Board as well as that in Clark Freeport Zone in Pampanga.

“I am looking for others that will fill it in Clark and Subic,” Aquino said.

It would be recalled that 12 SBMA Board members – Eddie Tamondong, Mario Garcia, Stefani Saño, Ricardo Coscolluela, Jesus Vicente Magsaysay III, Marivic Pineda, Angelita Cruz, Alvin Capino, Ariel Castro, Jorge Estanislao, Francis Garcia and Jennifer Ting – were removed from their posts following the signing of Executive Order No. 2 revoking the services of midnight appointees. The 12 were appointed by President Arroyo on March 1, 2010. (Madel Sabater - mb.com.ph)

Naming Ceremony for HHIC - Phil Inc. HULL NOs. PN-024/025 DWT 175,000 MT Bulk Carriers M/V "Rahi" & M/V "Vanshi"

Naming Ceremony for HHIC - Phil Inc. HULL NOs. PN-024/025 DWT 175,000 MT Bulk Carriers M/V "Rahi" & M/V "Vanshi" by President Benigno Aquino III

SUBIC BAY FREEPORT, Philippines — President Benigno S. Aquino III lauded Korean shipbuilding giant Hanjin Heavy Industry Corp.-Philippines (HHIC-Phil) for bringing huge economic gains to the local economy during his visit here Wednesday.

Aquino cited the Korean firm during the vessel-naming ceremony for two bulk-carrier ships that were recently produced at the Subic shipyard – proof, he said further, of what could be achieved in partnership ventures between the government and the private investor.

Both vessels, which were subsequently named as M/V Rahi and M/V Vanshi respectively, were purchased by the Adani Shipping Pte Ltd. of India and weighed 175,000 deadweight tons each.

Aside from Aquino, those who graced the event included officers of HHIC-Phil led by group chairman Jin Kyu Ahn, officials of the Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA) which administers this free port, and representatives of local government units.

“The ships that we are naming today signal the sending off of another ship— the ship of cooperation toward the horizon of the future,” Aquino said in his message.

The President also noted that among the foreign direct investments (FDIs) in the country, “Korean investors, like Hanjin, are among the most aggressive in placing their bets in the Philippines.”

Aquino said South Korea in 2010 has funneled some P24.2-billion worth of investments in the country, which accounted for about 40 percent of the total FDIs last year.

He added that HHIC alone, which has invested a total of $1.9-billion in its shipyard and skills training center in this free port since 2006, now accounts for some $3.5-billion in shipbuilding exports annually.

“You have given a lifeline to many of my countrymen who have tethered on the edge of poverty,” Aquino told Hanjin officials.

In return, Aquino vowed that his administration will continue to support foreign investors to sustain the quality of their outputs, and to extend tax privileges such as VAT exemption in the importation of equipment and machinery, and waive certain restrictions in the use of consigned equipment, among others.
