Bagwoman Cam resurfaces in estafa suit

Self-styled bagwoman Sandra Cam, who claimed that gambling money flowed in the 2004 national polls, sued a businesswoman for estafa over an agreement on the purchase of a sports utility vehicle.

Cam filed the charges against Angelita San Luis before the Makati City Prosecutors Office for swindling about P368,000 in cash last month.

In a two-page complaint she submitted to Assistant City Prosecutor Jesus Labriaga, Cam said she delivered the amount to San Luis on June 14 and 15 at the sixth floor of Ascot Hotel, formerly the Oakwood Premier Hotel, in checks for P296,000 and P72,000.

San Luis allegedly promised to hand over the amount to the Toyota Manila Bay Corp. as downpayment for a brand-new Toyota Fortuner.

San Luis is said to be the owner of Sapha Oils Inc. located at 8243 Argonaut Highway, Boton Area, Subic Bay Freeport Zone in Zambales.

The complaint-affidavit did not establish if Cam had a business relationship with San Luis.

Cam’s lawyer Louie Martinez said San Luis’ employee issued a receipt acknowledging that the two checks were received.

“Instead of delivering the said amount to Toyota Manila Bay Corp. as downpayment for one unit of Toyota Fortuner, respondent misappropriated, misapplied and converted the said amount to her own personal use and benefit to the damage and prejudice to me and to the corporation,” Cam stated in her pleading.

She added that despite repeated demands for San Luis to comply with their agreement, the car firm was unable to receive the amount.

On July 13, Cam said San Luis had made out check with the Philippine Veterans Bank for P358,000, and as it turned out, the account had only P2,000.

Cam emerged from anonymity in 2005 when she came out claiming that money from the operation of illegal numbers game or jueteng was reaching Malacañang.

She also claimed to have personally witnessed the wife of an alleged Pampanga gambling operator distributing P2 million each to regional directors of the Commission on Elections in a Metro Manila hotel a month before the 2004 presidential elections.

Cam’s charges were dismissed as “unsubstantiated garbage.” Ferdinand Fabella
