Subic Internet Providers Compete to Provide the Worse Service

Comments from SubicBulletin readers on Subictel lowering its DSL rates:

I think this is more good news than how the writer perceives it to be. I am a 999 subscriber in Kalayaan and there are no hidden provisions in the contract.

This has always been communicated by Subictel management eversince they started building the fiber optic connection. Now that they already have their own Fiber, they can now lower their prices to attract more customers.

Except for some cable quality glitches, their DSL speeds are actually much much better and reliable than the Broadband wireless I got from Globe and Smart.

Their service may be far from perfect but at least we are seeing and feeling some progress.

From the Bulletin: There is an 800 peso fee to downgrade your service from 2500 to 999. This might seem reasonable, except for the fact that existing customers did not choose 2500 – it was forced upon them by Subictel. Punishing existing customers with a needless fee is a great way to lose them to new competitors, but Subictel has long stopped worrying about alienating their customer base.

Another reader says:

The P999 plan is indeed a good buy as the speed is more than adequate - even better than the wireless Smart-Bro and Globe Innove wireless offered outside of SBMA. I can attest to this as I am also a new subscriber and I have tried both Smart-Bro and Innove in Olongapo. I even attached a Linksys wireless router and it worked wonders!

And yet another has a different view:

I have two hookups with Smart. Both are very slow and I cannot bring up many links. The signal is very weak. The problem is there are no alternatives. I was with Subictel and had the same problems. Some customers are with CATV and have the same problem, a weak signal and very slow connections. All these companies’ advertisements are bogus.
