‘KWITIS’ SHATTERS MAN’S EYE
The baby rocket zoomed straight into Peter Kenneth Orr, 30, shortly before the start of 2009 outside his rented room in Olongapo City. The American must have felt his eyeball explode in its socket as the “kwitis” landed in it. While smoke evaporated from the wound, warm blood, tears and other facial fluids also gushed out.
Orr, a resident of California, U.S.A., who is vacationing in the country, is undergoing surgery at the James Gordon Memorial Hospital (JLGMH).
A report said Orr was outside the Lighthouse Hotel and Restaurant, where he is billeted, when he lighted the “kwitis” at 11:30 p.m.
Malou Maraya, information officer at JLGMH, said no other firecracker victims were admitted at the hospital.
Earlier, the Olongapo City government passed City Ordinance No. 63, Series of 2008, banning the manufacture, sale, use and possession of fire-crackers.
