REINFORCED CURFEW HOURS

The city has long been implementing curfew hours for minors by virtue of Ordinance No. 07 Series of 1980 entitled “An Ordinance Imposing Curfew House for Minors under 18 Years of Age and Imposing Penalties for its Violation.”

The said ordinance was amended with Ordinance No. 22 Series of 1995 and revived in 2002 by Ordinance No. 102 Series of 2002.

The last amendment states that, “No minors below eighteen (18) years of age shall be allowed in streets and public places such as bars, restaurants, parks and playgrounds, amusement centers, beach resorts and similar establishments in the city of Olongapo during certain hours of the day as follows: a) Sundays to Thursdays – From 9:30 pm to 5:00 am of the following day; b) Fridays and Saturdays – From 11:00 pm to 5:00 am of the following day.”

Any minor caught outside their homes are breaking curfew and will be penalized.

The City Government has ordered a strict implementation of the ordinance. The public is once again reminded of the curfew to prevent crimes in the streets and maintain peace and order in the city at night. It also seeks to prevent drug addiction and prostitution involving minors.

“This program not for the city’s sake alone, but for the youth as well since it is intended to protect and discipline the youth,” according to Mayor Bong Gordon, “this is not in anyway to curtail their freedom, but all things have to have limitations.

The authorities are appealing to the parents to coordinate and help in the implementation of the curfew for the benefit of their children.
