OLONGAPO CITY BEING CONSIDERED AS HOST FOR NEXT APILG MEET
Mayor James “Bong” Gordon expressed his intention to host next year's meeting of the Association of Pacific Islands Local Governments (APILG).
Gordon presented his objectives and discussed Olongapo City’s offering before participants of the ongoing Second Annual Pacific Mayors’ Conference in Saipan recently.
Headed by Guam Mayor Paul M. McDonald, the APILG officers have yet to decide, the result of which will be known before the end of the conference.
Gordon is excited about hosting the next edition of the conference but he said that the decision is up to the APILG officers. “Olongapo City, which used to host a US military base, is suited to provide services for an international conference like this,” he said.
Even Mayor Wilma Billman, from the neighboring town of Castillejos, Zambales supports Gordon’s offer, agreeing that Olongapo has the appropriate facilities to host such an event.
Billman, who also attended the conference, even added, “Olongapo is a highly urbanized and highly competitive city.”
Also expressing his intentions to host next year’s meeting is Mayor Epifanio Sandoval of San Nicolas in Batangas.
Gordon is one of eight mayors from four provinces in the Philippines who are attending the Second Annual Pacific Mayors’ Conference being held at the Hibiscus Hall of Fiesta Resort and Spa.
The participants of this year’s meeting include 10 mayors and one vice mayor from Guam, two mayors from Kosrae Island, eight mayors, a vice mayor, and more than 20 municipal councilors from four provinces in Central and Southern Luzon.
