BIRTHDAY CONCERT TO COMMEMORATE THE FATHER OF OLONGAPO: JAMES L. GORDON

Senator Richard “Dick” Gordon and Mayor James “Bong” Gordon, Jr. will lead Olongapo City’s commemoration of the 93rd birthday of James Leonard Gordon, Sr. known to Olongapenos as “Ama ng Olongapo” on January 17, 2010.

“Dapat nating ipag-patuloy ang mga nasimulan ni James L. Gordon, Sr., huwag tayong huminto upang alalahanin ang kanyang mga ginawa para sa Olongapo. When my father assumed office in 1996, he stressed that Fil-Am relations should be based on respect and interests of both countries. He made a great hard campaign against illegal logging and the rise of syndicates in Olongapo,” Mayor Bong Gordon said.

“Because of his relentlessness for good governance sake, my father had been a rival of many wealthy and powerful whose personal interests were adversely affected,” Mayor Bong added, “Walang takot na nakipag-laban upang mabawi ang karangalan ng mamamayan ng Olongapo at makamit ang kasarinlan mula sa pagiging U.S. reservation hanggang Cityhood.” he said.

In a meeting held at the FMA Hall on January 12, 2010, City Administrator Ferdie Magrata announced that, in connection with James L. Gordon, Sr.’s birthday, a concert will be held on January 15, Friday at 6 o’clock in the evening at the Rizal Triangle Multi-Purpose Center.

The concert, which is open to the public for free, is to honor and commemorate James L. Gordon, Sr. who is also the first mayor of Olongapo.

Various popular artists and talents in the entertainment world will perform. Not to be left out will be Olongapo’s own local talents who will also show what they’ve got in the concert.

Aside from the live entertainment, there will also be raffle draws where the winners may bring home gift packs.
