GAPO, NATIONAL ENTRY FOR LOCAL LEGISLATIVE AWARD
Olongapo City, a highly urbanized city in Region 3 is the region’s official entry to the Local Legislative Award in the national category, which will be on February.
“I’m very happy that we were recommended by the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) regional office on the said award,” Mayor James Gordon, Jr. stressed.
The Local Legislative Award is one of its kind in the entire country and is spearheaded by the Philippine Councilors’ League in the region.
Among the basis in giving out awards to these local government units are the ordinances and resolutions passed by their respective local councils as implemented by the mayors.
The criteria include legislative agenda complementing annual development plan, which should also promote and support developmental thrusts of the national and provincial governments respectively.
Councilor Edwin J. Piano said in an interview over dwGO radio that the city was nominated from among the cities in the region to represent it for the national award.
The award is per Memorandum Circular No. 2009-134 given to outstanding Sanggunians (Councils) with exemplary performance.
“Olongapo’s contenders for the award include, Davao, Cebu and Bacolod, among others,” said Councilor Piano.
Basis for the award will be the total local legislations of the city.
Piano said the recognition from PCL has resulted to improved governance and delivery of basic services.
