Kaptanoglu Shipping Lines Take Delivery Of First Philippine Built Tanker from Subic

Turkish-based Kaptanoglu Shipping Lines has taken delivery of their newest vessel, the 114,000 ton deadweight oil tanker Leyla K, in a ceremony at Hanjin Heavy Industries Corp. Philippines (HHIC-Philippines) Redondo Peninsula shipyard.

Attending the event was the shipping lines president Engin Kaptanoglu and senior officials from both Hanjin and the Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority.

The m/t Leyla K is the first oil tanker to be produced by Hanjin’s Subic Bay shipyard and measures in at 241.27 meters (791.4 feet) in length and cost $68 million.

Kaptanoglu now operates three bulk carriers and eight oil and chemical tankers, with an additional three of each on order.

The delivery and continuing orders show that Hanjin’s investment of some $1.7 billion in the Subic Bay facility, which opened in 2006, shows their commitment to the Philippines is well placed. HHIC-Philippines is scheduled to construct 36 more vessels by 2013.
