Fire hits a Commercial building in East Bajac-Bajac

Fire razed a four storey commercial building located at Rizal Avenue, East Bajac-Bajac, Olongapo City on July 04, 2010 around 7:30 in the evening.

In connection with this, Mayor James “Bong” Gordon Jr. has again reminded the people of Olongapo City to be more careful in preventing disasters such as the occurrence of fire.

The estimated damage on the Xianteng Merchandise and Western Union is more or less two million and five hundred thousand pesos (P2.5M). What triggered the fire is still under investigation.

A concerned citizen reported the fire to the Olongapo City Fire Station. In a matter of minutes, firemen, led by Fire Chief Jonas R. Silvano responded to the incident. A total of twelve fire trucks from rushed to the place. Five came from Olongapo City Fire Station; four from the Disaster Management Office led by Angie Layug; two from the SBMA Fire Department; and one from Bgy. Gordon Heights Fire Rescue. The fire reached the fourth alarm.

Fire Chief Silvano declared fire out at about 11:00pm. No casualty was reported.

City Councilor Rodel Cerezo was also at the fire scene, as well as Col. Jose Aquino, head of the Office of Traffic Management Public Safety, who led his men in managing vehicular traffic in the area. PNP personnel were also present for crowd control.

The fire allegedly originated at the back portion of of the ground floor of the building, according to the initial investigation. Further investigation is still being conducted.
