“Olongapo City Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation Ordinance”
Mayor James ‘Bong’ Gordon Jr. has approved the City Ordinance No.15 entitled “Olongapo City Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation Ordinance” on August 3, 2010.
As part of the ordinance on how to deal or lessen the effect of global warming, some of the city government projects include Urban Greening (Botanical Garden) in every barangay and improvement of air quality, particularly through the LTO for their proper gas emission testing to minimize the unwanted smoke discharge by vehicles.
Climate Mitigation is any action taken to permanently eliminate or reduce the long-term risk and hazards of climate change to human life and property .
"Mitigation is an anthropogenic intervention which was caused by human activity, to reduce the sources or enhance the sinks of greenhouse gases," the International Panel on Climate Change said.
Climate Adaptation refers to the ability of a system to adjust to climate change (including climate variability and extremes) to moderate potential damage, to take advantage of opportunities, or to cope with the consequences.
“Adaptation is an adjustment in natural or human systems to a new or changing environment,” IPCC added.
