PEACE AND ORDER PARADE 2010 SET
Part of the city’s effort to maintain a peaceful and orderly environment, a Peace and Order Parade has been made a yearly event in Olongapo.
The Peace and Order Parade is a laudable brainchild of Mayor James Bong Gordon, Jr. It is intended to show unity among law enforcers and the people of Olongapo in keeping the city peaceful and orderly.
According to Angie Layug, DMO head, Olongapo City is the only city in the Philippines that conducts Peace and Order Parades that is jointly participated in by civilians, the police and military.
This year’s parade will include the Philippine National Police (PNP), Disaster Management Office (DMO), Barangay Public Safety Officers, cadet officers, Office of Traffic Management and Public Safety (OTMPS), Philippine Red Cross-Olongapo Chapter, fire and rescue team, business sectors, teachers, city government employees and officials and a delegation from the Philippine Merchant Marine Academy (PMMA).
The Peace and Order Parade, set on Friday, November 19, 2010, at 1:00 p.m. will commence from RM Drive to culminate at the East Tapinac Oval Track, where a short program will take place in recognition of those who have contributed and brought honor for the city.
It can be recalled that Olongapo City was awarded for having the Best City Peace and Order Council in 2008 by the National Peace and Order Council in the country, 2008 Best City Disaster Coordinating Council and 2008 Best Government Emergency Responder.
Mayor Gordon’s program on peace and order has been consistently effective and efficient all through the years as evidenced by the awards.
