Olongapo City - SM FOUNDATION’S “GAMOT PARA SA KAPWA” CONTINUES
SM Foundation Inc. has
successfully conducted the first medical and dental mission at SM City Olongapo
and Felicidad T. Sy Wellness Center in Brgy. Pag-asa, Olongapo City. The 2-day
mission had received a heart warming response
from the host city wherein based on records , the total patients served in SM
City Olongapo alone was 874 and 684 at Felicidad T. Sy Wellness Center.
Dubbed as “Gamot Para sa
Kapwa”, this year’s activity headed by SM Foundation executive director Connie
Angeles with the participation of Kapwa ko , Mahal Ko Foundation, Inc. aimed at
helping less fortunate families by providing them basic health services and positive
insights in coping with difficulties in life.
Services include medical
checkup and treatment, dental checkup and treatment, blood pressure checkup,
bloodtyping, blood sugar testing and monitoring. Apart from the medical services
free medicines for common illnesses and vitamins were also distributed to
patients.(as prescribed by doctors)
Indigent families were
identified by SM foundation long-time partner City Social Welfare and
Development Office joined by City Health Office, Philippine Red Cross, James L.
Gordon Memorial Hospital volunteer doctors and nurses and the team of SMFI
headed by Dr. Rory Siasoco.
“Gamot Para sa Kapwa” is being
conducted yearly in every provincial malls and its barangay health center where
Felicidad T. Sy Wellness Center is located.
“SM Foundation is the socio
civic arm of the SM Group of Companies through which it helps the less
fortunate in the communities it serves. These are areas within the vicinity of
SM Department Stores and Supermalls that need assistance.”
The Foundation has four areas of advocacy: education through scholarship programs and donations to schoolhouses; mall-based outreach programs; health oriented projects like medical missions, a mobile clinic, and hospital activity centers and religious community projects.
