Clark locators asked to pay taxes
CLARK Special Economic Zone ` The municipality of Mabalacat is demanding millions of pesos of fees and taxes from business locators.
Mayor Marino Morales said the municipal government's move is in connecion with the March 29, 2005 resolution of the Supreme Court voiding Presidential Proclamation 420 issued by former President Fidel V. Ramos granting tax incentives to businesses here and in Camp John Hay in Baguio City.
The SC resolution said only businesses in Subic Bay Freeport Zone are covered by tax incentives under Republic Act 7227, the Bases Conversion Law.
Morales has asked the Clark Development Corp. to inform all the 350 business locators to pay fees for Mayor's Permit, Building Permit and business taxes starting January 1 this year.
Recently, CDC president Antonio Ng said Clark officials and the Clark Investors and Locators Association said the immediate passage of two bills filed by Tarlac Rep. Jesli Lapus that would grant tax exemption and privileges to businesses here will solve the issue.
Many investors here threatened to relocate to other countries like China if the national government fails to make good its commitment to provide them with tax privileges.
