Legend Int’l Resorts inaugurates El Centro

The first and largest Subic convention center

By JASER A. MARASIGAN, Manila Bulletin

With the emergence of big tent facilities in many Asian countries (like Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand), Legend International Resorts recently inaugurated their own, geared towards making Subic one of the country’s top convention destinations.

El Centro

Sitting majestically on Subic Bay’s pulsating waterfront strip, El Centro (or The Center), is the first and biggest function hall in Subic.

The R30 million project features a high-ceiling tent offering 1,000 square meters of fully-airconditioned space, it is 20 meters wide with a side height of four meters and central height at the apex of 7.25 meters. The tent is made of PVC coated polyester by Expo Logistics manufactured in Germany, which can withstand typhoon winds with speed of up to 150 kph, and is flame retardant.

A perfect venue for a gathering of 250 to 1,000 persons, it offers an immense space for all kinds of functions, from seminars, trade exhibits and bazaars, to sports activities, weddings, parties and concerts.

Legend International Resorts chief executive officer Khoo Boo Boon said that this is the first landmark of its kind in Subic Bay. The facility complements Legenda Hotel, Subic Bay’s only deluxe hotel, which is just adjacent, thus making Subic Bay "a more competitive conference destination, therefore creating jobs, increasing the local economy and bolstering tourism," he said.

The tent also showcases an elegant lobby, modern audio room, motorized LCD, state-of-the-art visual and sound equipment. Its French windows provide a picturesque landscape of Subic Bay’s scenic and historic seas. Outside, there’s a refreshing landscape and an ample parking space.

El Centro’s structure offers remarkable ease in setting up different themes and function requirements, whether for serious business conferences, grandly-decorated celebrations and other private occasions.

Starlight Cabaret

Making its Asian debut at El Centro is the mesmerizing show of the Estonian Dance Agency (EDA) dubbed as the "Starlight Cabaret."

After 11 fruitful years of productions and shows in Russia, Sweden, Finland, Latvia, Estonia, Germany and other European countries, EDA will showcase its glamorous production numbers in a lavish parade of gorgeous dancers and colorful costumes in its debut performance in Asia via Subic Bay.

Starlight Cabaret, which showcases the best of cabaret entertainment and timeless Broadway classics through music and dance, will have its last special preview tonight at the Legenda Casino, before the special dinner show tomorrow night at El Centro.

Dancing to the beloved cabaret classics, prepare to be amazed with their spectacular performances of some of the more familiar scenes lifted from musicals such as Sugar, Evita, Chicago, Cabaret, West Side Story and even Moulin Rouge. In addition, the group will perform Caribbean numbers adding color to the show.

"We want to give our audience an enthralling experience," said one of the dancers. "We return to the musical numbers that have already proven its strength over the years and that have been the most eye-catching and mind-blowing show numbers from different eras. The show does not try to reinvent them, but merely brings back on stage the show numbers that have already proven its success."

The Estonian Dance Agency, the biggest dance organization in Estonia, was established in 1998 by young choreographers and dancers. EDA has produced some of the best performers that have brought them to stage of the world-renowned musicals like Miss Saigon, Sound of Music, Grease and Evita.

El Centro, a property of Legend International Resorts Ltd. (LIRL), is set to bring more world-class shows and top productions in the coming months. LIRL is also owner and operator of the Legenda Hotel and its sister hotels, Grand Seasons Hotel and Legenda Suites, also in Subic.

Legendary

Just 15 minutes away from the Subic International Airport, Legend Hotel is the only five-star hotel in Subic. It started operations in 1994 with 83 rooms, and in 1996 added more rooms for a total of 254. It has a 24-hour coffee shop called Le Café, a Chinese restaurant called The Museum, and a Lobby Lounge for drinks and music. It also has a spa and a gym, as well as a disco and karaoke club (Neptune Club).

Grand Seasons Hotel is a deluxe hotel with 155 rooms, while the Legenda Suites has 102 suites, which is geared more for families.

The three properties cater to both local and foreign markets, bringing in a quarter of a million foreign tourists to Subic each year, making it the largest foreign tourism promoter in Subic.
