Kenney visits CL; reaffirms strong RP-US bond
After her sorties to former conflict areas in Mindanao, US Ambassador to the Philippines Kristie A. Kenney visited several cities in Central Luzon Thursday and Friday, touring major American business offices and health facilities funded by the US government.
A statement issued by the US Embassy said that Kenney’s visits reaffirm the commitment of the US and the American people to the stability and prosperity of the Filipinos.
Ambassador Kenney toured the Department of Social Welfare and Development’s reception and study center for children in Lubao, Pampanga, hometown of President Arroyo.
The center is a regional facility for abandoned, abused and orphaned children, and boasts on its staff a US Peace Corps volunteer who assists in teacher training, special-needs development, English-language training and outreach programs.
Kenney also met with officials in the Subic and Olongapo City area, led by Mayor James Gordon of Olongapo City and Gov. Vicente Magsaysay of Zambales.
At the Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority Kenney met with Chairman Feliciano Salonga and other officials to discuss investment issues, bilateral trade and commercial opportunities for US companies.
She saw the full range of US business and economic partnerships in the Subic Bay Freeport Zone. She visited the FedEx regional distribution and logistics hub, which employ hundreds of Filipinos.
The largest US naval facility in the region was formerly located at the Subic Bay Freeport.
Mayor Carmelo Lazatin of Angeles City and Kenney visited the Angeles City Reproductive Health and Wellness Center, whose innovative HIV/AIDS survey, education and outreach program is being supported by the US government.
At the Clark Development Corp. she met with CDC President Antonio Ng to discuss investment issues. She assured Ng that the embassy would continue to promote the Clark Special Economic Zone to American investors.
