Olympic Festival draw 7,000 athletes

THE inaugural staging of the Philippine Olympic Festival will feature close to 7,000 athletes in 27 sports events to be played in various venues nationwide.

The sprawling multi-million peso Trace Aquatics Center in Los BaƱos, Laguna will host the aquatics events including swimming where 20 Davao City tankers will be seeing action.

Archery, canoe-kayak and equestrian will be held in Subic Bay, arnis at SM Fairview, Quezon City while badminton, baseball, billiards, and taekwondo at the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex in Manila.

The other events are basketball (Taguig City), track and field (Nueva Ecija), bowling (PBC), boxing (Tubod, Lanao del Norte), chess and sepak takraw (Tagaytay City) dragon boat (Baywalk), fencing (Fencing Hall-PSC), football (Marikina), golf (Villamor, Pasay City), gymnastics and wushu (Ninoy Aquino Stadium), judo (TBA), karatedo (TBA), powerlifting (Robinson'sPlace, Cavite), table-tennis (SM Manila) and weightlifting (Philsports).

The festival is a venue for national sports associations to discover new talents. It may also serve as a qualifying event for the 15th Asian Games.
