Darts council tour 2006 kicks off
WITH an eye on sending a national team to the Asia-Pacific (Aspac) Cup XIII (Aspac) in Malaysia on September 19 to 24, 2006 and placing a bid to host the Aspac Cup XIV Manila in September 2008, the Darts Council of the Philippines (DCP) unveiled its year-long program highlighted by four major and two big tournaments all of which DCP hopes to get financial support from the government and corporate sponsors.
“More than the coveted singles title and the prize money each tournament offers, the prospects of making the national team for Aspac XIII will surely motivate darters to give their best,” said lawyer Andrew L. Arrieta, DCP President.
o serve as kick-off of DCP Darts Tour 2006 will be the PhilMasters Darts Championship 2006 on July 28 to 30 at the Cozy Nook Magsaysay, on Magsaysay Avenue in Baguio City.
The other national tournaments lined up for DCP Darts Tour 2006 are the Senator Aquilino “Nene” Pimentel Cup-National Open Singles Championship on August 25 to 27 at the Bulua Gymnasium in Cagayan de Oro City; Senator Richard “Dick” Gordon’s Cup-Philippine International Darts Open on October 27 to 29 at the Subic Bay Freeport in Olongapo City; and the Super Darts Philippine Cup Team Championship on November 30 to December 3 at the Pearl Plaza Mall in Parañaque City.
The Metro Manila Darts League will also be revived with a series of tournaments starting August in various venues in the metropolis. Added to the events is the new Battle of the Champions - a grand final tilt featuring all champions of DCP’s singles qualifying events held in several parts of the country starting July 15. The grand finals will be held December 3 at the Pearl Plaza Mall in Parañaque City.
Arrieta also revealed that the singles event of the major event will be used as basis for the selecting members of the national pool from where a strong Philippine team to Aspac 2006 will be chosen.
