ZAMBALES VICE GOVERNOR FILES COMPLAINT AGAINST ATTACKER
Masinloc, Zambales. Zambales Vice Governor Ramon Lacbain II has filed a complaint with the police against the son of Zambales Governor Vicente Magsaysay for threatening his life and those of his loved ones, as well as for punching him repeatedly during a cultural affair in Sitio Balogo, in the town of Masinloc, Zambales.
In the report issued by the Masinloc police station where Lacbain filed his complaint, the governor's son, identified as Jesus Vicente Magsaysay, reportedly manhandled and threatened Lacbain in the presence of provincial, municipal and barangay officials at around 11 p.m. last June 27.
According to the police blotter of the incident, Magsaysay apparently did not like Lacbain's speech which acknowledged his (Magsaysay's) pledge of P12,000, or P1,000 for each of the 12 zones of the sitio (village).
Magsaysay reportedly sat beside the vice governor, hooked one of his arms into Lacbain's neck and with his other arm repeatedly punched him in the stomach under the table.
"Huwag mo akong i-on the spot. Pinapahiya mo ako (Don't put me on the spot. You're embarrassing me)," Magsaysay allegedly told Lacbain. The then intoxicated Magsaysay also threatened the official when he allegedly said "mag-ingat ka sa mga sinasabi mo [at] alalahanin mo ang mga mahal mo sa buhay (be careful of what you say and be concerned about your loved ones)."
During his speech, Lacbain commented that he could not match the pledge of Magsaysay because the funds of the vice governor's office had been transferred to the office of the governor. Lacbain also revealed that he also had to turn down requests for financial help from his constituents because of the absence of fund.
The statement obviously irked Magsaysay who then said to Lacbain, upon his return to their table: "Di ka kasi marunong makisama sa mga board member kaya wala kang pondo. Walang kasalanan ang gobernador diyan (You don't know how to deal with the board members that's why you have no funds. It's not the fault of the governor)."
While hitting Lacbain, Magsaysay told the vice governor that the money he had given for the contest came from his own pocket and not from the provincial coffers.
"Kung gusto mo, kunin ko yang mic at magbigay ako ng P10,000 sarili kong pera. Sabihin ko tulong mo (If you like, I'll take the microphone, give P10,000 of my money and say it came from you)," Magsaysay reportedly told the vice governor, who refused the offer.
During the incident, Magsaysay's aide, Dick Manikan, as well as his bodyguards, identified as Larry Edano, Jason Malong, Julius Villamin, were positioned near Magsaysay and Lacbain.
Seated with Lacbain at the presidential table were Vice Mayor Pepito Dimaculangan, members of the Sangguniang Bayan, Barangay Captain Sorayda Sison and other visitors.
