Piltel set to increase charges

Pilipino Telephone Corp. said it will raise the charges for its local wireline services.

In a filing with the National Telecommunications Commission, company official Maria Dolores T. Syquia-Santos said Piltel's currency exchange rate adjustment (CERA) for local service rates has risen to 7 percent in June.

The company will charge residential subscribers with rotary set P441.32 a month from P434.93 and those with trunkline, P711.78. Commercial subscribers with rotary set will be charged P882.57; single-line subscribers with pushbutton set, P968; and business trunklines, P1,332.34

As of May, the dollar cost Piltel some P52.30 against the base rate of P9.471 in 1983. Piltel said pursuant to the currency adjustment provisions, it may increase or decrease its local service rates by 1 percent for every 10 centavo upward or downward change in the present Philippine peso to US dollar exchange rates.

Areas covered with higher local service rates include Baguio City; Boac, Marindue; Puerto Princesa, Palawan; Masbate; Sulu; Zamboanga del Norte and del Sur; Tawi-Tawi; Misamis Occidental; Davao del Sur; South Cotobato; and Sarangani province.

Also covered are subscribers in Olongapo; Zambales; Masbate; Mogpog, Marinduque; General Santos; and Digos, Davao del Sur. Darwin G. Amojelar
