Texas Instruments eyes expansion in Subic
Texas Instruments said it is mulling the construction of a manufacturing plant at the Subic Bay Freeport zone to serve as a sister facility to its existing Baguio complex, the economic zone’s administrator said.
Armand Arreza, Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA) chief, said Texas Instruments has expressed interest in plunking in an estimated $1 billion to foot the construction of a 20- to 30-hectare plant due to space constraints in its Baguio complex.
Arreza said the company is sending a technical team on October 10 to inspect potential sites for the proposed facility.
"The intention is to come up with a plant for redundancy and back up purposes [for the] Baguio plant, which accounts for 40 percent of their global sales," he said.
He said Texas Instruments would decide within a year. Rafael S. Santos -- ABS CBN
