US Marines join bilateral training in Subic
SUBIC BAY FREEPORT - Around 500 US marines arrived here early morning Wednesday onboard a high-speed vessel for the annual Philippine-US exercise set on October 16 to 31.
The marines are members of the 3rd Marine Expeditionary Brigade from Okinawa, Japan, and, along with their equipment, are part of the advance elements of the US forces that will be participating in the RP-US bilateral exercises dubbed as Talon Vision and Amphibious Landing Exercise.
Around 5,700 US soldiers from Japan assigned to the 3rd Marine Expeditionary Brigade and the Essex strike group will participate in the training.
The US exercise public affairs officer, Marine Capt. Burrell Parmer, said the exercise is aimed at improving interoperability, increasing readiness and continuing professional relationships between the United States and the Philippine Armed Forces.
Meanwhile, Parmer said that the US Agency for International Development, through the office of US Ambassador to the Philippines Kristie Kenney, has donated $100,000 to the Philippine National Red Cross for the victims of Typhoon Milenyo.
In a statement Kenney said that the American people are glad to be of help to their Filipino friends affected by the typhoon. Anthony Bayarong, The Manila Times
