Clark to sign airport catering deal

CLARK FIELD, Pampanga—A P1-billion world-class catering services is set to be established at the Diosdado Macapagal International Airport by next month to complement the growing number of flights in the area.

Clark International Airport Corp. president Victor Jose Luciano said an agreement is set to be signed with Gate Gourmet Philippines which is set to invest an initial P250 million to establish a service that would meet the growing demands for meals at the aviation complex.

He said that DMIA needs at least more than 1,500 meals per day for air carriers using DMIA.

“This is a huge investment for DMIA, we are set to sign the contract between Gate Gourmet Philippines and Clark International Airport Corp. by January next year,” Luciano said.

At the same time, Luciano said Viva Macau has already been allowed to hold flights to DMIA by the Macau government.

But Viva Macau is still waiting for its permit from the Civil Aeronautics Board to be able to fly to Clark four times a week. He said Viva Macau will probably start their flights by January.

He also said that Thai Air Asia of Malaysia will start their daily Clark-Bangkok flights by February. He also said that Clark International Airport is currently negotiating with other Middle Eastern Air Lines to conduct more flights at DMIA.

Tair of Saudi Arabia is set to fly to Clark starting January to accommodate the 1.4 million overseas workers from the middle east.

Luciano said that the expansion of the passenger terminal at the airport will also start in the latter part of 2007 to accommodate at least one million passengers in the area.

The initial investment for the expansion of the terminal cost about P160 million. He said that the P160 million is just for the terminal expansion and does not include the construction of air bridges.

“This is just for the expansion, and this is part of the developments at DMIA.” Luciano said the airport has already acquired one ramp bus which is set to be delivered by the first week of January.

More ramp buses from Germany will be delivered to the aviation complex next year. He said that each ramp bus can accommodate at least 100 passengers.
