EBB Public Market, Olongapo's'Huwarang Palengke'
East Bajac-Bajac Public Market has been recognized as the "Huwarang Palengk of Olongapo City'' last January 2, 2008 at the Rizal Triangle Multi-Purpose Center.
In front of city officials and employees, Mayor James "Bong" Gordon, Jr. together with City Councilor Ellen Dabu and representatives from the Department of Trade and Industries (DTI) awarded the plaques of recognition and cash prizes to the winners.
First place winner, East Bajac-Bajac Public Market, represented by Ireneo Cornelio received from Mayor Gordon a plaque of recognition plus P20,000.00 cash prize while Agripino Cruz of West Bajac-Bajac Public Market received a plaque plus the P15,000.00 cash prize as the second place winner. Third place winner James L. Gordon Public Market, represented by Joselino Alipio also received a plaque of recognition and a P10,000.00 cash prize.
Meanwhile, Mayor Gordon lauded the result of the Search for ''Huwarang Palengke sa Lungsod ng Olongapo''. Through the Search, the mayor said, market vendors and stall owners were encouraged to maintain the cleanliness of the public markets.
Selection of winners for the Search for ''Huwarang Palengke'' was based on criteria including adherence to fair trade laws and other city ordinances, cleanliness and orderliness and quality of service.
The Search for ''Huwarang Palengke sa Lungsod ng Olongapo'' was launched by the City Government in coordination with the Olongapo Local Price Coordinating Council (OLPCC) and the DTI. The said search aims to encourage market vendors and stall owners to support the city's campaign for a cleaner Olongapo.
