Arroyo leads launching of SCTEx dry run
President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo will lead the convoy on Tuesday that will formally launch a week-long dry run for the 50-kilometer Subic-Clark portion of the Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway (SCTEx).
At 10 a.m. Tuesday, the President-led convoy will leave from Clark Logistic Interchange in Barangay Mabiga, Mabalacat towards the Subic Freeport.
The dry run of SCTEx is aptly dubbed ""Handog ni Pangulong Gloria: Libreng Biyahe sa SCTEx" as motorists who would use the toll road from March 18 to 24 will not be charged with toll.
After the ceremonial launch of the dry run, the toll road will be opened to traffic by 1 p.m. up to 5:30 p.m.
Starting Tuesday up to Monday, on the other hand, the toll road will be opened from 5:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
Only type 1 vehicles or chartered buses and motorcycles with a minimum displacement of 400 cc will be allowed entry to SCTEx.
The whole interchange is expected to be fully operational by April.
A trip from Clark to Subic through SCTEx would only take about 30 minutes compared to the almost three hours of journey using the Jose Abad Santos Avenue (Jasa).
SCTEx is one of the flagship programs of the Arroyo administration that aim to maximize the potentials of the Clark and Subic free ports and the industrial zone of Tarlac.
Motorists coming from North Luzon Expressway (Nlex) bound for Subic are advised to take the Mabalacat Spur Road (NLE interchange) located between the Dau and Sta. Inez exits and proceed to the SCTEx Clark Logistics Toll Plaza.
After crossing the bridge, they are advised to follow the loop of the ramp towards Subic.
Motorists are also advised to follow the appropriate road directional signage., while motorists at SCTEx bound for Bataan may exit at the Dinalupihan Interchange via Roman Highway.
Vehicles coming from Subic and Bataan bound for Manila are advised to enter SCTEx through the Tipo Toll Plaza or the Dinalupihan Toll Plaza, respectively, and follow the road signage towards the Clark Logistics Toll Plaza.
Upon reaching the Clark Logistics Interchange, they should take the first ramp to the right that will lead to the toll plaza, then the Spur Road (NLE interchange) connecting to Nlex.
Travel time from Clark to Subic will be reduced to a mere 40 minutes.
From Nlex in Balintawak to Subic, travel time will only be one hour and 30 minutes. (ABL/RGN-SUNstar)
