Subic cops who foiled shabu smuggling try get promotion
SUBIC BAY FREEPORT, Philippines - The Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA) has promoted the law enforcers involved in the seizure of eight boxes of shabu (methamphetamine hydrochloride) for a job well done.
The interception led to the discovery of a total of 714.6 kilos of shabu the street value of which is estimated to be P4.2 billion.
"This eventually led to the discovery by joint (Philippine Anti-Smuggling Group) and SBMA operatives of the 714.6 kilos, some of which are stashed in a warehouse and others loaded onto another vehicle," SBMA administrator Armand Arreza said.
The operatives saw and challenged Anthony Ang, the primary suspect, while he was offloading the boxes containing the shabu from a Taiwanese vessel F/B Sjun Fa Xing docked at the SRF compound.
Ang reportedly claimed that the boxes contained computer parts but was unable to show proper documents for it.
Arreza said the SBMA board of directors approved the step promotions for all the members of the unit. He however did not identify the promoted policemen for security reasons.
Several other politicians sent their congratulatory messages that were read during the flag raising ceremony Monday morning. - JOHN BAYARONG, GMANews.TV
