Bong Gordon to perform at Manila Hotel
“Salute from Media and Friends, Part 2” goes onstage this Monday, Aug. 4 at the Manila Hotel Fiesta Pavilion, with the proceeds to benefit members of the media who have fallen ill or become disabled as well as the families of colleagues who have passed away. Among those on the list of beneficiaries is Nelly Sindayen, former correspondent of Time Magazine who is recovering from a stroke; the family of society columnist Gilbert Perez who passed away recently; and former Philippines Graphic editor in chief Manuel Almario who is in critical condition.
The show promises to be an evening of entertainment, if not amusement. Some of the numbers to look forward to are solos by news anchors and reporters Ruth Abao, Amelyn Veloso and Charo Logarta; the “Three Tenors” composed of Energy Secretary Angelo Reyes, Metropolitan Manila Development Authority Chairman Bayani Fernando and former Sen. Joey Lina; Immigration Commissioner Nonoy Libanan with an acoustic guitar medley; United Opposition spokesman (and Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila president) Adel Tamano in a Michel Buble song-and-dance number; and Lucio Tan’s granddaughter Jerika Tan (a law student at UCLA) together with the classical-pop quartet Angelos.
The “amusement” part will be provided by a nostalgia tinged number by columnist Deedee Siytangco, magazine editor Chay Santiago, GMA Network executive Rod Cornejo and this karaoke drop-out.
From the government sector, Ombudsman Mercy Gutierrez, Rep. Danilo Suarez, Rep. Ed Zialcita, Mike Toledo, National Commission on Culture and the Arts Executive Director Cecile Guidote-Alvarez and her husband former senator Heherson Alvarez, Olongapo Mayor James Gordon and Caloocan Mayor Recom Echiverri will be performing. They will be joined by internationally renowned singer Ivy Violan, as well as by classical performers Nolyn Cabahug and Rachelle Gerodias, and other special guests.
“Salute from Media & Friends Part 2” is presented by Smart and the National Commission for Culture and the Arts, and sponsored by Pagcor, Coca-Cola, Nokia, Land Bank of the Philippines, National Power Corp., Universal Robina Corp. and Absolute Distilled Drinking Water. The show’s stage director is Al Quinn and the musical director is Gerry Matias. For more information and ticket inquiries, please call Newsmakers at +632 9115615 or +632 4387200.
