NUTRITION MONTH CELEBRATION
A culminating activity in celebration of Nutrition month at FMA Hall of the Olongapo City Hall was held recently.
“Mahalaga ang role na gagampanan ng mga kabataan sa hinaharap kaya’t dapat ipamulat sa sa kanila ang wastong nutrisyon para lumaki silang malusog at handing makibaka sa anumang kompetisyon sa buhay,” Mayor James “Bong” Gordon said in his short message during the program.
“Hindi sapat ang nutrisyon lamang, marapat na pag-ibayuhin ang kalisian ng kapaligiran para sa mas mahaba at mas masayang buhay,” added Mayor Gordon.
In line with the celebration, themed “Sa Wastong Nutrisyon ni Mommy Siguradong Healthy si Baby,” contests like “Search for Mr. and Ms. Healthy Kids” and a cooking contest were held.
Different institutions from the city, such as the Pag-Asa Youth Association (PYA), Day Care Center Staff, Senior Citizens Association, City Social Welfare Development (CSWD), OCARE and Social Development Center (SDC), competed in the cooking contest where contestants vied for the top prize in the main dish and dessert category.
Some of the entires were “Steamed Squash and Fish with Creamy Sauce”, Sweet and Sour Tofu and Fish Fillet in Butter Carrot and Galunngong De Bella ala Brocoli Con Tofu. Meanwhile, in the desserts category, the malunggay ice cream, kalabasa candy and halayang kalabasa were pitted against each other.
The team of Persons With Disablities (PWD) from Nino’s Pag-Asa won in the main dish category with their ‘Halaan’ and Malunggay Delights. Banicain II DCC won in the dessert category with their ‘Malunggay Ice Cream’.
In the Search for Mr. and Ms. Healthy kids, three kids competed for each of the categories. The finalists were winners from the cluster and institutional level competitions held in the different Day Care Centers of the maincity prior to the competition.
Lorenz P. Eballe won as Mr. Healthy Kid while John Mark dela Llana landed as first runner up and Lorenz Go second runner up. Chloe Phein Palileo won as Ms. Healthy Kid while the runners up were Yna Ysabel Garado and Mica Tablan Manansala.
City Councilor Ellen Dabu, Richelle Torralba, Nutritionist/Dietician Dr. Maria Victoria P. Baviera, Dentist/Nurse Dr. Cynthia Mendoza and Dr. Jose Bismarck Abad served as judges for the competition.
