TURN-OVER CEREMONY AND MOA SIGNING OF COMMUNITY- BASED FLOOD EARLY WARNING SYSTEM
In connection with the “Flood Simulation Exercise” held last September 20, 2008 in Brgy. Old Cabalan and West Bajac-Bajac, members of several national agencies turned –over various equipment to the City of Olongapo.
The Turn-over Ceremony and MOA Signing was held at the FMA Hall of Olongapo City Hall. Present during the occasion were Mayor James “Bong” Gordon Jr., City Councilor Rodel S. Cerezo, City government Employees and representatives of the different agencies of Region III Disaster Coordinating Council.
The ceremony focused on the Hazards Mapping and Assessment for Effective Community- Based Disaster Risk Management. Its objective is to raise awareness and educate Olongapeños of what to do in times of natural calamity such as flood.
Tturned-over were five (5) Digital Rain Gauges, one (1) manual rain gauge, four (4) water level gauges and one (1) batingaw. The Mines and Geosciences Bureau also installed Landslide warning signs in selected areas.
Mayor Gordon thanked the participants in the flood simulation exercise as well as to the agencies who sponsored some of the equipment.
“Patuloy nating palawigin ang ating mithiin na makamit ang layunin ng ating Lungsod in “Fighting for Excellence”, Gordon said.
The Agencies who turned-over the equipment include Pag-asa, Mines and Geosciences Bureau, OCD Reg. III, National Mapping Resource and Information Authority (NAMRIA), DOST and Phivolcs.
