BRGY. BARRETTO RECEIVES NEW MEDICAL EQUIPMENT
Mayor James “Bong” Gordon, Jr. expressed appreciation to John 15 Foundation, founded by Bill Kerr for donating medical equipment to Olongapo City which was intended for Brgy. Barretto Health Center.
The equipment were turned-over by Mayor Gordon during the flag raising ceremony on February 2, 2009 at the Rizal Triangle Multi-Purpose Covered Court to Brgy. Barretto through Barangay Captain Carlito Baloy.
The medical equipment will benefit the women of Barretto as part of the Reproductive Health Program of the city through the help of United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA). The UNFPA is planning to expand coverage of its micro-finance program for marginalized women in Olongapo City this year.
“Ang programang ito ay para sa mga kababaihan, at marami pang ibang proyektong inihahanda ang ating lungsod para sa mga taga-Olongapo,” Mayor Gordon said.
This year, the UNFPA plans to assist five more women’s groups in the city. “To qualify, group members must have entrepreneurial capability and income below the poverty threshold,” UNFPA City Project Coordinator Bel Dado said.
Mayor Gordon said women’s groups interested in availing of the program can submit their proposals to UNFPA so the organization can evaluate.
The organization came up with the program to help alleviate poverty in the countryside. Such program also seeks to empower women financially by providing them with seed capital for livelihood activities.
