Zambales nickel mine starts
IBA, Zambales -- Authorities confirmed Monday that giant Australian mining firm Rusina Mining N.L is ready to start its $500-million nickel commercial mining.
Gov. Amor Deloso, in a briefing with local officials and business leaders, said Rusina, in partnership with European PLC company and two other local mining entities – D.M Consunji Mining and Fil-Asia Mining companies – will operate in a month or two the 10,000-hectare nickel mine in Acoje, Sta. Cruz town.
Deloso also said a smelting plant is being put up by the firm to complement the mining operation so that only finished products such as nickel blocks would be shipped out of the country.
“Certainly, Rusina and co. will help ease-out the country’s economic gloom as 3,000-5000 workers will be hired for various works during its full operation by 2010,” he said. By: Mamer Bañez - Journal online
