SIBIT-SIBIT FESTIVAL 2009
As early as five o’clock in the morning, residents of Olongapo City, tourists and visitors from the neighboring areas flocked to Driftwood Beach in Barangay Barretto to witness the Sibit-Sibit Festival 2009 kick-off.
Through the initiative of Mayor James “Bong” Gordon, Jr. and the active participation of the City Tourism Office together with the different departments of the City Government, the Beach Boulevard Business Association of Barretto, the Olongapo Business Club, Inc. and the Subic Bay Resorts Association (SUBRA) the successful kick-off gives the public what to expect in the coming days.
Students wearing colorful costumes presented dances and different Gawang Gapo products were displayed. GMA 7’s morning program Unang Hirit featured the event with its segment hosts “Eagle” Riggs and Charise Solomon who danced along while Mayor Gordon and his Bonggo Band rendered the theme song “Sibit-Sibit”.
The kick-off also featured the celebration of Earth Day 2009 showcasing the clean-up drive of the city’s seashores and waterways led by the Environmental Sanitation and Management Office (ESMO).
Meanwhile, Kite Team Philippines will conduct a kite workshop on April 24 at the Olongapo City Convention Center, one of the highlights of this year’s Sibit-Sibit Festival.
The tourism office announced that the activities for the Sibit-Sibit will continue as soon as we experience good weather, referring to the postponement of some event due to rains.
For more information, call the City Tourism Office at telephone number 224-1471.
