BARANGAY SPORTS OLYMPIC FESTIVAL ‘09

Through the initiative of Mayor James “Bong” Gordon, Jr., chairman of the Olongapo City Sports Council and Vice-Chairman Councilor Rodel Cerezo, the Barangay Sports Olympic Festival 2009 kicked off on May 11, 2009 at the Rizal Triangle Multi-Purpose Covered Court.

The event headed by Mayor Gordon started with a parade from City Mall going to Rizal Triangle with Vice Mayor Cynthia Cajudo, City Councilors, government officials, members of City Sports Council, SK Federation Officers, barangay officials, athletes and other guests.

Among the sports activities in the said Barangay Olympics are basketball, volleyball, billiards, badminton, chess, dama, bowling, swimming, taekwondo, scrabble and the so-called Laro ng Lahi such as Culliot, Kadang-Kadang and Pagulungan.

In an interview by dwGO radio, Councilor Cerezo said the Barangay Sports Olympic aims to promote sports in the city and discover potential athletes who may represent the city in national or even international sports competitions.

In line with the event, a two-day seminar for coaches and trainors were conducted at the Olongapo City Convention Center to ehance their approaches in trainings to athletes.

The awarding ceremony will be on May 22, 2009 at 5:00 o’clock in the afternoon at the Rizal Triangle Multi-Purpose Covered Court, coinciding with the Singing Contest among representatives of the Olongapo City’s 17 barangays.
