INDEPENDENCE DAY IN OLONGAPO
On orders of Mayor James “Bong” Gordon, Jr., city officials have laid out plans to commemorate the country’s 111th Independence Day on June 12, 2009.
This year’s theme is “Kagitingan, Kagalingan at Kasipagan Tungo sa Tunay na Kalayaan.”
“Muli nating sasariwain ang kalayaan ng bansa at sa paraang ito ay patuloy nating ipinapaalala sa bawat Pilipino, lalong-lalo na sa mga kabataan. Ito ay isang paraan upang mapanatili sa kanilang kamalayan ang tunay na kahalagahan ng kalayaan na ating tinatamasa sa kasalukuyan,” said Gordon.
A two-part activity is scheduled on the 12th of June starting with a program which will be held at the Rizal Triangle Complex at 8:30 in the morning. Participants of the said program include all the departments of the City Government, different agencies and non-government organizations with Olongapo City First Lady Zambales Vice Governor Anne Marie Gordon and Mayor Gordon.
A Grand Parade will follow starting from R.M. Drive along Olongapo City Mall going to Rizal Triangle Multi-Purpose Center.
Also joining the parade are the 17 barangays in the city, teachers and students from public and private schools to be led by DepEd, Olongapo City Police Office, Retired Officers and Men of PNP, Boy and Girl Scouts of the Philippines, different Civic Groups, Business Groups and some representatives from the Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA).
More information about the event may be obtained from the City Tourism Office at the Olongapo City Convention Center (OCCC) with telephone number 224-1471.
