Sen. Gordon lauded telcos

as Chiz pushes free weather updates
By: Bernadette E. Tamayo - People's Journal

Sen. Richard Gordon lauded telcos for giving free services to facilitate donations to the Philippine National Red Cross.

He said telcos’ voluntary services make it easier for people from the provinces to make donations to victims in evacuation centers.

Meanwhile, SEN. Francis Ecudero yesterday urged telecommunication firms to play a bigger role in saving lives and property by providing free weather forecasts to the public.

Escudero also asked the National Telecommunications Commission to study the possibility of requiring these companies to make it part of their corporate social responsibility.

“The NTC could come up with a law directing telcos to send updated weather bulletins and climate conditions to all their subscribers as a public service,” he said.

“Such information will surely be appreciated than unwanted infomercials, music downloads and promotional gimmicks,” Escudero added.
