Wanted: City Scholars
The Olongapo City Government is again accepting scholarship applications for incoming college freshmen’ for the 2nd semester of School Year (SY) 2009-2010.
In this connection, City Councilor and Committee on Education and Culture Chair Jonathan Manalo, in an interview at SBC-DWGO, is inviting qualified and deserving Olongapeño youth to take advantage of the city’s scholarship and educational programs.
“I, myself came from a low-income family but thru Mayor James “Bong” Gordon’s scholarship projects, I was able to finish my studies,” said City Councilor Manalo.
“As part of Mayor Gordon’s HELPSS (Health, Housing, Education, Environment, Labor, Livelihood, Peace and Order, Social Service and Sports) program, the prioritization of education thru the scholarship programs and expansion of Gordon College where the city scholars study are among them,” said City Councilor Manalo.
The following requirements must be submitted by qualified and deserving elementary, highschool and college students to avail of the scholarship assistance:
For Elementary & High School Level
Letter of Intent addressed to Mayor Bong Gordon (2 copies)
Bio-data with recent 2x2 picture
Report Card with 4th Grading Average (xerox copy)
If former City Scholar – attach certification
For College Level
Letter of Intent addressed to Mayor Bong Gordon (2 copies)
Bio-Data with recent 2x2 picture
High School card with 4th Grading General Average
(xerox copy); if transferee-transcript of records (xerox copy)
Voter’s Registration or Voter’s ID of parents
Meanwhile, incoming college students who wish to apply for scholarship assistance for two-year or four year courses must take and pass the entrance exam to be administered by Gordon College and must at least have a general average of 85% or higher on his/her high school report card.
Should an applicant qualify as one of the 500 grantees of the city’s scholarship program, he/she must sustain a general average of at least 85% or higher to maintain the scholarship grant.
