OPLAN SUMVAC 2010, ALL SET
Tasked by Mayor James “Bong” Gordon Jr., Disaster Management Office (DMO) head Angelito Layug led the final planning and meeting of participating agencies, departments and barangays in this year’s OPLAN SUMVAC (Oplan Summer Vacation) on March 19, 2010 at the Sangguniang Panlungsod Session Hall.
“The OPLAN SUMVAC is a yearly undertaking led by the city government dedicated to maintain public safety and smooth flow of traffic and to respond and assist effectively in emergencies and problems encountered by residents, motorists and tourists especially during the Holy Week,” Layug, explained.
According to the action plan presented by the DMO, this year’s OPLAN SUMVAC will assist the public from March 28-April 4 and the Central Command Post will be stationed at the Olongapo City Hall. Satellite stations will also be organized on the following pilot areas: IRAM (Along National Highway New Cabalan), Kalapati, Old Cabalan (adjacent to Petron Gasoline Station) Ulo ng Apo, Victory Terminal Station, Kalaklan Gate, Ocean View, Driftwood Beach, Baloy Beach, Balimpuyo (Sta. Rita), and at the Grotto in Mabayuan.
In this connection, volunteers from participating organizations, city government departments and agencies are assigned on the following stations:
“As a prime tourist destination, Olongapo City shall always endeavor to maintain peace and order and safeguard public safety,” said Mayor Gordon. “And thanks to the efforts of our yearly OPLAN SUMVAC volunteers, summers in the city has always been relatively safe and peaceful,” he added.
“Aside from OPLAN SUMVAC, it can be recalled that Mayor Gordon thru the Public Affairs Office (PAO) has released advisories on the impacts of the intense summer heat (El Niño) to health, tips that are very important especially to tourists who are expected to flock at Barangay Barretto, the city’s beach capital,” said Vic Vizcocho, head of PAO.
