Mayor Gordon cautions on Landslide Prone Areas

Mayor James “Bong” Gordon, Jr. has reminded and cautioned Olongapo City residents particularly those living in the slopes or landslide prone areas like some parts of Brgy. Kalaklan, Brgy. Sta. Rita, Mabayuan, Gordon Heights and East Bajac-Bajac.

‘’Kaya mahalaga na mag-ingat ang mga residente sa mga lugar na yan at kinakailangan ang ibayong pag-iingat lalo na ngayong panahon ng tag-ulan,’’ stated Mayor Gordon.

Mayor Gordon made the statement after a landslide took the lives of two (2) construction workers and injured one in the tragic incident that happened on May 31, 2010 at a construction site in Brgy. Kalaklan.

The Disaster Management Office (DMO) responded right away and went to the site with 2 ambulances after they receiving a message on the incident from Patrol 117 of the Olongapo Police Office (OCPO).

The rescue team from DMO wasted no time as soon as they got to the landslide site. They immediately started to dig, with the help of a back hoe, the mud, soil and rock to rescue and recover the bodies that were to be trapped some 6 to 10 feet under.

After almost 3 hours of digging, the 2 casualties were recovered and later identified as Gilbert A. Dalisay, 38 years old of #65 Lower Kalaklan and Ronnie Lastimada, 23 years old, a resident of #2440 Old Cabalan. Meanwhile, Edmar Viljiga survived the landslide with minor injuries and was immediately brought to James L. Gordon Memorial Hospital (JLGMH) for medical assessment.

Olongapo City First Lady and Zambales Vice Gov. Anne Gordon immediately went to the site as soon as she learned of the incident. She comforted and condoled with the families of the victims of the landslide.

‘’Nakahanda ang city government sa anumang tulong na kakailangin ng pamilya ng mga biktima,’’ said FL Anne Gordon.
