SEARCH FOR MODEL OFW FAMILY OF THE YEAR AWARD NOW OPEN
The Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) recently opened the search for the 2010 Model Overseas Filipino Worker (OFW) of the Year Award (MOFYA).
The search for the MOFYA is an annual award-giving project designed to give recognition to outstanding Overseas Filipino Worker (OFW) families. It also promotes the best practices of OFW families in achieving success in all aspects of their life in the face of overseas migration of one or more members of the household.
Meanwhile, Mayor James Gordon, Jr. has tasked the Public Employment Service Office (PESO) to conduct a wider information dissemination campaign for this particular contest. “I’m calling on all migrant workers who have managed to deal with the impact of overseas employment and maintained strong family ties to join this contest,” Mayor Gordon said.
“We will be sending copies of the announcement and also the application forms to all barangays of Olongapo, for those families who have relatives abroad and of course willing and interested to join the competition”, Evelyn delos Santos, Head of 0PESO said in an interview.
According to OWWA, eligible nominees for the MOFYA are families with either a land-based or sea-based OFW who can meet the following criteria: four (4) years overseas employment, must continue to maintain a family in the Philippines, supports the education of a child/ family member/s; known as a solid and stable family in the community; and with financial stability.
According to the MOFYA selection criteria, nominees are expected to have a “wholesome” family (50%), involved in the community (20%), and successful in managing their family finances (20%) and the education of its members (10).
