Tuberculosis Month Celebration

Mayor James “Bong” Gordon Jr., is all out in giving full support to the City Health Office (CHO) on awareness campaign for the prevention of tuberculosis in Olongapo City.

CHO Head Dr. Arnildo Tamayo said that the program for Tuberculosis Month will start on the first week of August, 2010. The awareness campaign will be coordinated to all the Barangay Captains all over Olongapo City in order to facilitate the free medical check-ups and consultations, laboratories and free medicines for the symptomatic patients in their respective Barangays. Among the targets are the relatives of patients who died due to tuberculosis.

In connection with the program, Mayor Gordon has provided free medicines for six (6) months consumption of patients diagnosed with tuberculosis.

Dr. Tamayo also said that with the help of Mayor Gordon the laboratory for tuberculosis and malaria was built for free laboratory screening of patients with tuberculosis. With this program, Mayor Gordon and the City Health Officials aim to ensure Olongapo residents that tuberculosis will not hamper the City’s resolve to achieve healthy living for all. PAO/rlb
