SORE EYES CAN BE PREVENTED!

Do you get alarmed when your eyes is inflamed, itchy, reddish and teary? Are you aware what causes this soreness? It’s called an acute inflammation of the conjunctiva- the outermost layer of the eye and the inner surface of the eyelids, commonly known as sore eyes.

People tend to believe that upon seeing a person with sore eyes, one will get contaminated, too, but it’s a myth!

According to Dr. Arnildo Tamayo, city health officer, only direct contact or the hand to eye contact of the contaminated hand is the usual way of spreading the virus.

Mayor James “Bong” Gordon Jr. has issued a warning in the face of reports of a rise in sore eyes incidents in the city.

He reminds people to wash hands regularly, not to the touch eyes with dirty hands, not to lend personal belongings, not to re-use hankerchiefs but use tissue, instead, and dispose of it after a single use, not to swim on water with anyone who has sore eyes because water makes the virus transmission faster, keep household clean, isolate or move to another room if anyone in the family is infected and finally never to self-medicate, it might make the irritation more severe.

Good hygiene and a clean environment will prevent us from contracting any disease.
