‘GAPO OFFICIALY ADOPTS “HIMNO NG OLONGAPO”
Mayor James “Bong” Gordon Jr. has signed City Ordinance no. o7 on July 4, 2011, making the Olongapo City hymn entitled “Himno ng Olongapo” official city hymn to be sang after the Panunumpa ng Katapatan sa Watawat ng Pilipinas or the Philippine National Anthem in the absence of the former.
The city government recently disseminated copies of the Olongapo City Hymn to the city’s seventeen (17) barangays, national government offices, agencies, local radio stations, private and public schools.
“Ginugunita ng awiting ito ang kasaysayan ng bolunterismo, mga pagsubok na kinaharap at tagumpay na natamo ng lungsod. Ito ay isanginspirasyon sa bawat Olongapeño na mahalin ang kanyang tinubuang bayan,” remarked Mayor Gordon.
The “Himno ng Olongapo” shall be sung or played in all government gatherings, functions and special occasions. Non-Government Organizations (NGOs), public and private schools are also encouraged to play or sing the hymn during their gatherings within the city.
As the Olongapo City Hymn is played or sung, everyone in attendance is required to stand as a gesture of respectand face the Olongapo City flag (if there is one displayed), the band or the conductor.
The “Himno ng Olongapo” was written and composed by Roland Fronda and Allan Maroda. The hymn shall be played or sung in accordance with the original musical arrangement and composition. The lyrics are as follows:
Lungsod na mapayapa
Lungsod na marangal
Sa Perlas ng Silangan
Bayani ang mamamayan
Malasakit sabayan sa puso’y nagnunulay
Ipinagbubunyi Olongapo aming bayan.
Kapwa tao at bolunterismo
Lungsod na makulay Maykapal laging gabay
Sama-sama bawat oras tungo sa pag-unlad
Olongapo ang bayan ika’y walang katulad
Kapwa tao at bolunterismo
Lungsod na makulay Maykapal lagging gabay
Sama-sama bawat oras tungo sa pag-unlad
Olongapo ang bayan ika’y aming tanglaw.
