Olongapo City cited among RP’S 20 most viable business sites

The Asian Institute of Management (AIM ) Policy Center cited recently Olongapo City as among the 20 Philippine cities most viable for business.

The selection is a result of a study dubbed,”The Philippine Cities Competitive Ranking Project” conducted by the AIMPC with the assistance of the United States Agency for International Development and Germany’s Technical Cooperation Unit.

The study which included 65 cities of the Philippines of varying sizes was aimed to encourage local executives to embrace decentralization, become development and economic managers and not depend on budget allocations from the national government.

The cities included in the study were evaluated based on seven factors that drive competitiveness namely; cost of doing business, links to major urban growth centers, dynamism of the local economy; human resource training, adequacy and quality of infrastructure, and the quality of life in the cities.

The 20 selected cities are: For viability – Davao, Las Pinas, Makati, Marikina and Muntinlupa. For mid-sized cities with populations of more than 200,000 – Bacolod, Iligan, Iloilo and San Fernando of Pampanga. For small cities or those with population less than 200,000 – San Fernando in La Union, Dagupan, Legaspi, Koronadal, Naga, Olongapo, Sta Rosa, Surigao and Taguig.
