PNRC responded to ULTRA tragedy

Philippine National Red Cross Chairman Richard J. Gordon immediately mobilized and personally led the Red Cross Disaster Response Team to assist in the stampede tragedy that happened around 6:30 in the morning today at the ULTRA .

"My heart pours out to the victims and relatives of the fatalities," Gordon said.

Gordon added that, as soon as he learned about the incident, Red Cross' logistics and manpower were mobilized from the national headquarters and the chapters, particularly Rizal and Quezon City. Red Cross ambulances and medical teams were at the scene, transferring victims and fatalities to the designated hospitals and funeral parlors.

Red Cross also activated a public service hotline (telephone 5270000) and a 24/7 team to handle all inquiries from those needing assistance and seeking for their relatives and their friends. The Blood Services Group are working closely with the assigned hospitals for any blood requests. At the same time, the Red Cross Social Services group's sent its stress de-briefing teams in all assigned hospitals and funeral parlors.

"It is heartbreaking that a tragedy like this happens," Gordon said. He stressed that, the Philippines' has had a lot of man-made and natural disasters, tragedies and calamities in the past years. "We should focus on a mitigation and a disaster response program- that has the discipline and mechanism to predict, plan, prepare, practice and respond."
