Subik! Subik! Festival! It’s Subic’s turn to show off
By JASER A. MARASIGAN, Manila Bulletin
Subic celebrates its marvelous growth as a tourism destination with a cultural festivity dubbed as "Subik! Subik! Festival!".
Organized by Greater Subic Bay Tourism Bureau (GSBTB), the three-day event, which will be held from Feb. 10 to 12, will highlight the tourist attractions of Bataan province, Olongapo City, Subic Bay Freeport and Zambales province, and also what it has become today – offering a broad range of tourism activities, and as a premium industrial, agricultural and residential area.
The event will gather over a 100 travel agencies from NAITAS, PHILTOA, and PTAA, plus local government units and other tourism councils and organizations in its own Travel Exchange dubbed as the "Subik Experiences". This aims to showcase the versatility and variety of Subic as a destination and convention option.
The Mountaineering Federation of the Philippines, Inc. (MFPI) and Sports Value Inc. will help highlight the ecotourist attractions of the four areas by conducting the following activities: Hiking in Bataan; Miata Cup/Racing in Olongapo and Subic Bay Freeport; Surfing Competition and the re-launch of Mt. Pinatubo hike in Zambales.
In addition, MFPI will donate seedlings for the rehabilitation of riverside and forest areas.
A "Culture of Tourism Seminar" will also be held, which aims to educate and train the industry players and the members of the community to establish a sense of responsibility and the attitude to promote service excellence. This will be participated by the LGUs, tourism councils and organizations, and National Association of Independent Travel Agencies (NAITAS).
Subic’s main draw is the fact that the area is so big, it can offer so much in terms of entertainment, adventure, relaxation, history, and even business. With a grand parade aptly titled "Subik! So Big!", it will showcase the abundance and variety of attractions that only Subic can offer. Two floats from the Bataan and Zambales provinces will converge at the same time at the Boardwalk of the Freeport, culminating to a grand fireworks display and a rave party.
