Olongapo trains 128 OSYs
Olongapo City -- To increase the literacy of out-of-school youths and adults, the Alternative Learning System Unit of the Olongapo City Schools Division conducted various vocational courses for 128 beneficiaries.
ALS Chief Lourdes Gonjoran also said that there were 34 passers in both the elementary and high school in the Non-Formal Education- Accreditation and Equivalency Exam. The elementary passers could now enroll in high school even if overaged and did not finish grade school while the high school passers may now continue with their collegiate education.
The courses conducted in the schools and the number of trainees is as follows: Nellie Brown, candle making and crochet, 12 participants; Sta Rita ES, dressmaking, 15 completers; Mabayuan, baking, 26; Baretto, cosmetology, 11; Gordon, computer and reflexology, 33; and Olongapo City ES, dressmaking, 31.
The conduct of these projects is in response to the goals and objectives of the Schools First Initiative which the Department of Education implements in coordination with the local government units to increase the percentage of A& E passers and provide adult learners with basic skills to earn their living.
