CLARK SPECIAL ECONOMIC ZONE -- New York-based Sutherland Global Services has committed set up a call center here, making it the fourth business process outsourcing firm to locate in this former American air base north of Manila.
K.S. Kumar, head of Sutherland's Asia Pacific/Europe operations and strategies division, and Victor Jose Luciano, acting president of Clark Development Corp., signed the agreement on the investment project this week.
AOL, Cyber City Teleservices and Intellrisk Management Corp. were the first to locate in Clark, Luciano said.
AOL and Cyber City employ 1,150 and 2,500 agents, respectively.
Kumar said Sutherland would hire 1,200 workers for its operations at the Berthaphil Business Park.
The 20-year-old company decided to branch out here because of the country's pool of English-speaking workers, he said.
He said the soon-to-be completed Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway, which will link Clark to the Subic Bay Freeport Zone to the west and an industrial hub in the province of Tarlac to the north, was another advantage to doing business here.
A company profile released by Clark Development Corp. says Sutherland has more than 12,000 employees in 14 delivery centers in the United States, Canada, India, Mexico and the Philippines.
It says the company specializes in providing customized business and knowledge process outsourced solutions to more than 50 companies on the Fortune 500 list.
These include customer service, transaction processing, technology support, knowledge management, account management, and business intelligence. With INQ7.net
