VICE GOV. LACBAIN OPENS THE 1st BOTIKA NATIN

IN SAN NARCISO TOWN

La Paz, San Narciso. Zambales vice governor Ramon G. Lacbain II opens the first Botika Natin sa Nayon (our pharmacy in the countryside) in the town of San Narciso today 12 August 2006 at barangar La Paz. Most of the barangay officials headed by chairman Bienvenido Paz, Jr. and other residents attended the opening program.

This first small community pharmacy at barangay La Paz is also the 113th Botika Natin within Zambales and Olongapo City. A team composed of ten volunteer members from different families headed by Sonia Rivas will manage this pharmacy.

The team agreed to comply with these terms imposed by the Zambales War Against Poverty (ZWAP) Foundation as the owner and operator of these pharmacies - to strictly comply with the price list, buyers must not resell medicines, to require doctor’s prescription when needed and to ensure that they have regular supply of medicines.

Authorized representatives of Botika Natin will buy their medicines for sale from the ZWAP Foundation at distributor’s price while they impose a 20% mark-up to cover for their miscellaneous expenses.

People in the community are surprised with the very low prices of medicines for sale in Botika Natin. A 500 mg. paracetamol is only P0.50, 500 mg. mifenamic acid is P1.00, loperamide is P1.00 and a 50 mg. amoxicillin is P2.00 to name a few of the medicines. The price list must be posted in the pharmacy and it is distributed to all members including other residents so they can monitor any overpricing.

“Botika Natin is for service and not a business”, explains vice governor Lacbain to team members during launching ceremony.

“Don’t think about the amount of profit that you are missing but the amount of help that you are able to extend to your relatives, neighbors and friends who don’t have the financial capacity for expensive medicines.

Botika Natin aims to bring generic medicines closest to the people in the remotest areas so they can save on transportation cost while at the same time get the medicines at miraculously low prices within 24 hours”, according to vice governor who started this project about a year ago.

The respective regional offices of the Department of Social Welfare & Development and the Department of Health are also partners of vice governor Lacbain in this health promotions project.

The ZWAP Foundation that owns and operates these small community pharmacies is duly registered with the following national government agencies - the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), the Department of Social Welfare & Development (DSWD), the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) and the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI).

The opening of this small community pharmacy in barangay La Paz coincided with the Medical-Dental-Legal Mission of the Rotary Club of Downtown Olongapo (RCDO) which benefited more than 200 medical patients and more than 50 dental patients who are mostly victims of the last typhoons Glenda and Henry that badly hit the town of San Narciso.
